Steam Whore Issue 1

The Steam Autumn Sale (also known as the Exploration Sale) is up and running through 12/2/14 and it has given me an opportunity to pare down my wish list from almost 90 items to around 40. This was not done by making insane impulse purchases (as I have done in the past a few times) but by asking myself legitimately “Am I ever going to play that?” There are approximately 5,700 titles on sale during this event and they are broken up into featured sales and flash events.

I’ve noticed a couple of games sliding into deeper discount territory once they clear the two day “Featured Deals” window, so my sweet spot is a 75% discount or greater, and I take a hard look at a lot of things at $4.99 or less. There was an issue with Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm where it was released at $29.99 (a 40% discount off of regular price) but when the Autumn Sale started that was doubled to 80% making it $9.99 in my wish list (but when I put it in my cart it went back up to $29.99).

It turns out this was a glitch (a failure to communicate perhaps) where Steam doubled the discount, and as a result a number of people were able to purchase the game at $9.99 before the issue was corrected. Those of us (like me) that saw it at $9.99 in our wish list but could not get the price to load in the shopping cart were shit-out-of-luck screwed. I understand it was a mistake, but Steam/Slitherine did not honor the posted purchase price and frankly I think that is a raw deal.

Ignoring that title due to the pricing fiasco, I turned my attention to a couple of others that I have since picked up and put some play time into:

At the moment I would have to say that Expeditions: Conquistador is the one that has most captured my interest, whereas Graviteam Tactics: Operation Hooper did not excite me to the level I had hoped for, and I have not even played Hearts of Iron 3: Their Finest Hour yet.

My first time running Canada and my first assassination.
