F1 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix

São Paulo, Brazil: Race 6 of my current Season Challenge mode took place at Autódromo José Carlos Pace (Interlagos for us old timers) under absolutely abysmal racing conditions with a constant downpour throughout the entire weekend. With some of my recent rant posts (Black Shark 2, Future Soldier) I decided to post something about one of my favorite games for a bit of a change up. This game from Codemasters Birmingham is both accessible and challenging at the same time.

Racing games in general have been a bit of a struggle for me to post about, with previous efforts in Race07 as well as this game not really coming off as decent blog material. However I decided to make a go of it for this single race as a bit of a higher level AAR light of sorts. The setting is the sixth race of a condensed 10 race season, and my current rival is Fernando Alonso. Having beaten him once already, a second win today would guarantee me a contract offer from Scuderia Ferrari.

My rival Fernando Alonso is in danger of losing his ride if he finishes behind me today.

Single flying lap qualifying was a mess with all of the water on the track.

My rival qualified second which means there should be an interesting start to the race.

Interlagos!!

The lineup for the Brazilian Grand Prix, all wet.

With the rain the DRS is disabled, but I have KERS available at the start which I use to punch forward.

Alonso had a slight opening through the turns 1 & 2 exchanges but was unable to come alongside me.

And that is all she wrote as I pulled ahead and away from the field for my 32nd career victory.

Fernando Alonso dropped to third place with Sebastian Vettel landing in second.

This marks my six consecutive win of the season (the first four coming with Force India and Scuderia Toro Rosso at two each).

With Lewis Hamilton as my teammate, my victory puts Vodafone McLaren Mercedes in the lead of the Constructor’s Championship with 138 points.

Yay me!

I don’t think so, but thanks anyway.

Beast Mode.

While this offer is tempting, I have other goals to pursue this season.

There are four races left in this condensed season: McLaren is up by 5 points in the Constructor’s Championship over Red Bull Racing, while Ferrari is 44 points behind. As I want to win that championship as well as the driver’s title, I am sitting tight for the remainder of the season.

Having beaten Fernando Alonso twice and then rejecting the contract offer, I have to select another rival from a different team, and this time I select Sebastian Vettel.

  2. It's a really fun game to play and I have more than gotten my money's worth out of it.

  3. I have to admit I'm not very good at it i have to have a lot of driver assists on just to be somewhat competitive. Having a blast though. I don't like all that media nonsense with email etc but this is easily skipped through.

  4. I race on easy mode with all of the default aids enabled that comes with that, and I use a Logitech gamepad controller. I only wish that the game allowed for the scalability of the AI strength so that I could keep racing in easy mode but increase the challenge from the AI as I got better.
