Soviet Union National Focus

The following list after the page break is the current National Focus path that I am using for the Soviet Union with Joseph Stalin as the leader. While the all important Desperate Measures focus is chosen immediately after the start of Operation Barbarossa, it is because significant battlefield preparations have been ongoing for some time and other focuses were required to be done in a certain order to hit historical dates as closely as possible. The following list is a work in progress as this game is ever evolving however, it has successfully gotten me the beginning of the war with Germany.

Hears of Iron IV

I have been doing a lot of games as the Soviet Union, attempting to mirror real life events and timings as closely as the game will allow. Not all of time though, playing as Trotsky or one of the other principals to overthrow Stalin in time to still have to deal with Operation Barbarossa certainly spices things up. The most recent build I am working on refining has the ultimatums for Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania by August 1939, and the Winter War by November 1939.

However several recent games have resulted in Finland ceding territory and no actual combat resulting in a White Peace having occurred. Throw in the claims on Bessarabia in May 1940 and Operation Countenance by September 1941. Fighting a war with Iran with or without the aid of the British while at the same time holding back the Germans is quite a challenge to gear up for, considering all of the hideous debuffs the USSR starts the game out with.

Overall I been having a lot of fun with the game and once I hone my focus, research, construction and templates I will posts those lists here for anyone that may want to try them out.

Hearts of Iron III Fall Blau

Today I will be playing the Fall Blau (Case Blue) standalone scenario in the grand strategy epic title Hearts of Iron III by Paradox Development Studio. The settings chosen for this effort are normal difficulty and normal game mode. The selections for diplomacy, production, technology, politics and intelligence are actually irrelevant as the scenario designer disabled them.

The Axis Victory Conditions are to capture Baki, Rostov and Sevastopol. The Allies Victory Conditions are to hold Stalingrad, Rostov and Sevastopol until 12/1/1942. The variation between an Axis Baki and Allies Stalingrad objective are problematic in that the Germans cannot reach Baki by scenario end, even with the legendary Blitz tactics enabled (it is literally a province too far).

Hearts of Iron III Desert Fox Italian AAR

Today I will be playing the Desert Fox standalone scenario in the grand strategy epic title Hearts of Iron III by Paradox Development Studio. The settings chosen for this effort are hard difficulty and normal game mode. The selections for diplomacy, production, technology, politics and intelligence are actually irrelevant as the scenario designer disabled them.

The Allies Victory Conditions are to control Tarabulus before and after 1/10/42 and to control Tunis after the same date. The Axis Victory Conditions are to control Alexandria and to cross the Suez Canal and capture Romani. I will be commanding Commando Superiore Africa, led by RodolfoGraziani*. This force is comprised of several combat elements, the most notable being Erwin Rommel leading Panzergruppe Afrika starting in the Agedabia province.

Hearts of Iron III Battle of the Bulge German AAR

Today I will be playing the Battle of the Bulge standalone scenario in the grand strategy epic title Hearts of Iron III by Paradox Development Studio. The settings chosen for this effort are hard difficulty and normal game mode. The selections for diplomacy, production, technology, politics and intelligence are actually irrelevant as the scenario designer disabled them.

The Allies Victory Conditions are to remain in control of Den Hagg until 1/2/45 and to remain in control of Calais until 1/2/45. The Axis Victory Conditions are to capture Den Hagg and capture Calais. The scenario starts on December 16, 1944 at midnight. I will be commanding OB West, led by Gerd von Rundstedt. This force is comprised of Heeresgruppe B (Model), Heeresgruppe G (Balck), Heeresgruppe H (Student), 7. Armee (Brandenberger) and 14. Flieger Division (Udet).
