Sahrani Alpha Build

The following scenario is a small two day parachute operation on an airfield in North Sahrani called the Pita Airstrip. This airfield is guarded by Axis force 2 Bn HQ 469 Inf Regt of the Democratic Republic of Sahrani. The battalion is spread out into three locations with a company guarding key points (intel reveals forces at Masbete, Pita Airstrip as well as a barracks to the south).

The Allies paratroop force 1 Para Bn HQ of the Kingdom of South Sahrani will drop in a clearing approximately five km from Masbete and are tasked to simply secure the airfield and hold it until the end of the scenario. Victory Points accumulate for occupation as well as completion, so it is critical for the Allies to reach the objective and remove the Axis forces located there.

Sahrani Progress Report

A big leap forward in this project came today when zwobot from the Matrix Games forums volunteered then delivered a functional map of Sahrani to my email box. The following screen shots are of a sample mission I created this evening to test the Allied Force list against the Axis Force list (specifically the 683rd Infantry Regiment against the 469th Infantry Regiment). The result was that the Allies were unable to break through the bridgehead and make it to the airport.

The Allies at the regimental level have 2,214 personnel, 497 non-armored fighting vehicles, 30 gun units, an anti-personnel firepower rating of 1,380, an anti-armor rating of 961, a bombardment rating of 141, and an infantry value of 1,308. At the battalion level, they pack 628 personnel, 114 non-armored fighting vehicles, 10 gun units, an anti-personnel firepower rating of 416, an anti-armor rating of 292, a bombardment rating of 47, and an infantry value of 426.

New Estab File Underway

I am working on creating a new Estab file for Command Operations that will mimic the fictional war fought in the game ArmA I between the Kingdom of South Sahrani and the Democratic Republic of Sahrani (or North Sahrani). The intent is to map out sections of the island (which is 400km2 including underwater areas). Spoiler: in the game ArmA 2 the Kingdom of South Sahrani ultimately defeated the communist north to unify the country, but that outcome is not a foregone conclusion.

The time period will be 1944-1947: the Axis forces are the communist nation of Democratic Republic of Sahrani, which will be equipped with US Allied weapons and vehicles. Their land forces are represented by the First Army Group and V Corps. The Allied forces are the Kingdom of South Sahrani, which will be equipped with German Axis weapons and vehicles. Their land forces are represented by the Third Army Group and VII Corps, as well as irregular forces.

Invasion 1944 Mod

I downloaded a mod yesterday for Armed Assault: Combat Operations called Invasion 1944. It is a pretty decent mod that has some bugs and issues (to be expected, for any mod). The install process is a pain in the ass and should have been easier. The installation path assumes a Bohemia Interactive directory so North American users of Combat Operations need to move the add on and campaign files to their Atari directory, update the short cut (plus find the icon – very lazy on the mod developer) and delete the Bohemia directory from the C: drive as it is not needed (unless you have something else already in there from another game).

I am hoping these gents will patch this release for ArmA I before they start in earnest with ArmA II. I love OFP and ArmA, but to be blunt there is nothing I see in ArmA II that warrants me having to pay full price for it. I can wait for it to tank on Amazon and get it brand new on the cheap. We PC gamers have that distinct advantage over console freaks. One thing I do like already is that one Tiger tank can rip to shreds two or three Sherman tanks while taking only moderate damage.
