New Estab File Underway

I am working on creating a new Estab file for Command Operations that will mimic the fictional war fought in the game ArmA I between the Kingdom of South Sahrani and the Democratic Republic of Sahrani (or North Sahrani). The intent is to map out sections of the island (which is 400km2 including underwater areas). Spoiler: in the game ArmA 2 the Kingdom of South Sahrani ultimately defeated the communist north to unify the country, but that outcome is not a foregone conclusion.

The time period will be 1944-1947: the Axis forces are the communist nation of Democratic Republic of Sahrani, which will be equipped with US Allied weapons and vehicles. Their land forces are represented by the First Army Group and V Corps. The Allied forces are the Kingdom of South Sahrani, which will be equipped with German Axis weapons and vehicles. Their land forces are represented by the Third Army Group and VII Corps, as well as irregular forces.

The Estab file is fully functional and I have created the first Force List for the First Army Group and V Corps, which is currently built out to the 13th Infantry Division consisting of the 469th Infantry Regiment at three battalion’s strength. I intend to add two more regiments to the division as well as typical supporting units such as combat engineers, AT guns and artillery pieces. My intent now is to have one full force division per side, a reserve component for the North and guerillas for the South.

And now for the slideshow...

The United States Marines to be represented in the game will be the 3rd Marine Infantry Division of the I Marine Amphibious Corps from a mod I created a few years back.

  1. Wow, nice idea. Small glitch in your description: the fictional war fought between the Kingdom of South Sahrani and the Democratic Republic of Sahrani (or North Sahrani) was featured in ArmA not ArmA 2.

Are you planning to create a map for the scenario? Representing the ArmA Sahrani map in 1:1 scale in the MapMaker would be too small for a division sized engagement and up-scaling it might be... difficult.

    1. Update to the above: well, it may not be as small a map as I initially thought, especially since the current version of your estab looks more brigade sized than division sized at the end of the day.
I did the following in a couple of minutes:

If you want I can go on with the map for your scenario.

  2. Hi Tim! This is very cool. How long did it take you to create the new estab? Thats one manual for the game I've barely looked at. I've only altered existing unit states before.

    1. Hey Chris, the estab file took less than five minutes to create. The time burner is in creating the force list(s) within the scenario maker (naming units and assigning estabs). That can take several hours, but the whole thing can be done in one sitting.

  3. Thanks for making those points...I will update the post tonight when I get home from work. The map you sent looks fantastic and I would love to do a collaboration on this. Thank you very much.
