Games for Windows Live

Earlier today I came across some information that may be news to most avid gamers but slipped by me unnoticed: the impending death of G4WL online gaming service. The rumored end date is July 1, 2014. This is problematic for several games which G4WL is heavily integrated into utilizing multiplayer functionality (if not starting the game altogether).

Games that I own that could be at risk are: Batman: Arkham City GOTY, Dirt 2, Battlestations Midway and Pacific (the funny thing is that until today all were uninstalled as I was not playing them). I did reinstall Dirt 2 just to see if it still works and it does (for now).

All I can say is thank goodness some developers pulled their heads out of their asses and said goodbye some time ago (as Codemasters did when they had it in F1 2011 but dropped it for F1 2012).
